Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a BVI marine survey quote?
Provide the island, exact marina, yard or mooring, vessel details, construction, purpose and date. Include charter-fleet access, haul-out, sea trial, storm history and any insurer, lender or VISR requirement.
Can a charter yacht be surveyed between bookings?
Potentially, but the fleet operator must release the vessel and provide keys, records and adequate time. Haul-out, cleaning, sea trial and access to all systems should be scheduled before attendance.
Can one surveyor cover all BVI islands?
Some surveyors travel, but ferry or boat transfer, weather and yard access can affect scope and cost. Start with the actual island and whether the yacht can move to an appropriate facility.
Who can issue a BVI Certificate of Survey or tonnage certificate?
VISR states that registration survey and measurement are carried out by an approved classification-society surveyor or a surveyor appointed or authorised by the Registry. Commercial and statutory work has additional appointment rules.
Are island travel, haul-out and sea trial included?
Only when stated in writing. Transfers, accommodation, yard fees, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist diagnostics may be separate.
Who appoints the marine surveyor?
The client appoints the independent surveyor directly and agrees scope, fee, timing and terms. BVI Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.
